Hi, I am Abu Shahama Khan. I am the founder and lead mechanical design engineer at Arrant Engineering Solutions.

For the past 14 years I have provided end-to-end mechanical design — from solid modeling and heavy structural weldments to precision sheet metal and IP-rated enclosures. I have engineered solutions across regulated and demanding industries, including FDA-regulated medical devices, maritime defense infrastructure under DNV/ABS, industrial and mining equipment, and consumer IoT products.

My engineering philosophy is straightforward: a CAD model is only useful if it can be built on the shop floor. I design with standard tooling, real material behavior, and fabrication realities in mind, and I apply ASME Y14.5 GD&T rigorously on every drawing package. Most of the work I am hired to do involves catching manufacturing issues at the CAD stage, before they become expensive prototype rework.

From designer to automation builder.

A few years into the work, I noticed how much of every project was spent on the same repetitive tasks: updating drawings, batch-exporting PDFs, renaming files, and tracking changes across massive assemblies. Senior engineers were burning hours on work that should have taken minutes.

I learned the SolidWorks API and started writing the code to automate it.

Today my freelance practice runs on two pillars. I design mechanical products that ship. And I build the C# add-ins and VBA macros that let other engineering teams ship faster. That dual experience is also what led me to build my own product, Design Co-Pilot — a Pack-and-Go assembly comparison and audit tool for SolidWorks.
